Growing up in Shetland, Astrid enjoyed playing the piano from an early age and The Shetland Folk Festival provided early experience both of local music tradition and stagecraft. She went on to graduate from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) as a classically trained pianist, where she also studied under composer Judith Weir.

Astrid came down to London and formed the critical acclaimed  Goya Dress with Terry de Castro & Simon Pearson, releasing sublime EPs & only one album, Rooms on Nude  (produced by The Velvet Underground’s John Cale) in 1996 before disbanding in 1998.

Hence came the first solo album form Astrid ‘Boy for You’  .The album was  recorded in New Orleans with producer  by Malcolm Burn, who has previously worked with Daniel Lanois, The Neville Brothers, Iggy Pop, Peter Gabriel, Patti Smith .

Released on Nude Records, the album was reissued on One Little Indian/Incantation Records in 2006.

The song “If I Loved You” was featured on the soundtrack to Gregory’s Two Girls the 1999 sequel to Bill Forsyth’s cult 1981 classic Gregory’s Girl.
